Urging Thakurgaon University to become one of the best educational institutions in the country and to ensure world-class education, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has clearly said that no kind of nepotism, partisanship or political influence will be tolerated in any appointment related to the university, starting from teachers. Appointments will be made only on the basis of merit. Because we really want to make this university world-class.
He made these remarks on Friday (May 29) morning while inaugurating the temporary office of Thakurgaon University, set up on the west side of the main field of the Government Boys’ High School in Thakurgaon town.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Thakurgaon University is not just an educational institution, it is a reflection of the long-standing dreams and expectations of the people of this region. To build a modern and world-class university, the quality of education cannot be compromised. Therefore, there will be no party influence in the university, no nepotism. Only those with the highest qualifications and skills will be appointed.”
Expressing his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government, he said, “The people of Thakurgaon have long demanded a medical college and a university. To implement that demand, the government has taken the initiative to establish the university as soon as possible. The appointment of the vice-chancellor has already been completed and this temporary office has also been opened, which is an important step in taking the university’s activities forward.”
Mirza Fakhrul addressed a view-exchange meeting with journalists at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium in the afternoon after the inauguration of the university’s temporary office.
At the time, he said, “About 500 journalists in the country were martyred during the previous fascist government. We did not want such a Bangladesh. Journalists must remain united to protect the rights of journalists and ensure media freedom in the new Bangladesh. Responsible and objective journalism can play an important role in the welfare of the country and the nation.” He also called for a lot of education for objective journalism.
Also present at the event were State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, Thakurgaon-3 MP Zahidul Islam, University Vice Chancellor Dr. Israfil Shaheen, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, Police Superintendent Belal Hossain, Thakurgaon Press Club Acting President Lutfar Rahman Mithu, senior journalist Abdul Latif, along with senior administration officials, political leaders, teachers and well-wishers.
