The prices of cumin, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger-garlic are now on the rise in various retail markets of Paikgachha including Khulna.‎There are only a few days left for the holy Eid-ul-Azha. As Eid approaches, the prices of daily necessities including spices in the market have reached the sky. Before the joy of the festival, the common people are now fighting with the products.
‎As the prices of almost all types of spices have increased in a span of a few days, the common buyers are facing the most pressure. Therefore, before the joy of Eid, there is a shadow of instability in the spice market. Cardamom is currently being sold in the market for 4,600 to 5,500 taka per kg. Cloves are being sold at 1,800 to 2,000 taka, cumin at 700 to 800 taka, cinnamon at 550 to 600 taka, and coriander powder at more than 300 taka. In addition, the prices of ginger, garlic, and onion have also seen an upward trend.
‎Although imports and supplies are claimed to be normal, the prices of almost all types of spices, including cumin, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, ginger-garlic, and others, have increased at the retail level. Lower and middle-class buyers are the most affected by this.
‎Especially in the markets of polao, rice, spices, edible oil, salad ingredients, and dry food products, the upward price pressure is now clear. As a result, ordinary buyers are suffering. According to a section of traders, such a situation has arisen in the market due to increased seasonal demand.‎Although there is adequate stock of spices in the shops, the prices are higher than before. According to the sellers, prices are increasing in the wholesale market due to increased demand around Eid, which is affecting the retail level. In addition, there has been instability in the markets for daily necessities. The demand for daily necessities has increased in the run-up to Eid, and the prices of various products have increased on that occasion.
