A 5th grade student was raped by a tea vendor while buying biscuits in Sadullapur, Gaibandha.
The incident took place in Ghegar Bazar of Faridpur Union of Sadullapur Upazila on Saturday (April 18). On Monday (May 4), the mother of the victim, school student Sourav, filed a child rape case with Sadullapur Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The police then conducted a raid and arrested the accused tea shop owner, Saju Mondal, from his own house on Tuesday (May 5) night.
The arrested tea seller, Saju, is the son of the deceased Jalal Uddin of Dakshin Faridpur village in Mondal upazila.
According to the case, on the afternoon of April 18, Solaiman Sourav, a 5th grade student of Taslim Uddin Vidya Niketan in Bakshiganj, went to Saju Mandal’s tea shop to buy biscuits. At that time, when there were no customers in the shop, the shop owner, Saju Mandal, closed the shutters of the shop and forcibly raped the child by taking her to a cabin behind the shop.
After the rape, the child Sourav was sent home, threatening him not to tell anyone about the rape. Then, when he came home and fell ill, he told his mother about the matter. At that time, his family members admitted him to Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex. When his condition deteriorated there, the doctor in charge transferred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment. After receiving treatment there, the child’s mother filed a case on May 4.
Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Habibul Islam Habib said that after filing a case, accused Saju Mondal was arrested and sent to jail through the court.
