The traffic police have taken a tough stance to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion problem in Jessore. Recently, various types of vehicles have been parked along unplanned main roads in Jessore city, creating traffic jams. The traffic police have increased surveillance at various important points in the city regarding this traffic congestion. Regular campaigns are being conducted against the tendency of parking vehicles in no-parking zones and uncontrolled parking.
On Tuesday (May 5), several drivers were fined for parking their vehicles in no-parking zones in the city’s busiest areas, Jessore Sadar Hospital area, Daratana and surrounding areas, on Tuesday afternoon. Among them, Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Jashore’s Kachua area, was immediately fined under the Traffic Act for parking his vehicle outside the designated area.
Traffic police officials said that no relaxation will be given in no-parking zones to reduce traffic congestion in the city and keep traffic flowing normally. Strict action will continue to be taken against those who violate the rules.
Traffic Inspector Yusuf Ali Chowdhury said that they have started a campaign to resolve traffic congestion in the surrounding areas including Daratana. They are especially keeping a close watch on the issue of parking in various places. A case has also been initially filed on Monday. In addition, drivers have been warned. He also commented that their campaign will continue regularly.
Locals say that for a long time, there has been severe traffic congestion on the main roads of Jessore city due to random parking. Many have welcomed this initiative of the traffic police. However, they have demanded that awareness be raised as well as alternative parking arrangements be strengthened.
