Five students have been expelled for two years for cheating and cheating in academic examinations at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology. The decision was taken after reviewing the allegations at a meeting of the university’s Board of Discipline on Tuesday (April 28). According to the decision, two students from the 2021-22 academic year of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, one student from the same academic year of the Computer Science and Engineering Department, one student from the 2023-24 academic year of the Civil Engineering Department, and one student from the 2024-25 academic year of the Mechanical Engineering Department have been punished. The Board of Discipline is responsible for maintaining discipline at the university, supervising the code of conduct of students, investigating irregularities and crimes, and taking necessary disciplinary measures. Complaints of carrying and using unauthorized materials in the examination hall are scrutinized and sorted out in the relevant meeting.
According to sources at the meeting, unauthorized materials were seized from each of the five accused students during the exam. Some were found with handwritten notes, some with notes, and some with subject-based formulas and information-rich papers. However, the authorities did not reveal the names of those punished.
In this regard, Board of Discipline Member Secretary and Student Welfare Director Rabiul Islam Sarkar said, “Maintaining ethics and academic integrity in the university is very important. Embezzlement not only causes personal harm but also questions the credibility of the entire education system. In this regard, a ‘zero tolerance’ policy is being followed and will continue in the future. The university administration said that such steps will continue in the future to maintain a fair environment for education and establish ethical standards.”
