There has been an incident of theft of molasses (raw material for making alcohol) at Thakurgaon Sugar Mill. Due to the heavy rains that occurred a few days ago, the molasses pipe of the sugar mill leaked and went into a nearby pond, and the authorities deployed the necessary manpower to rescue it. A worker named Momin, who was engaged in the rescue work, stole 13 drums of molasses and it became known in an instant.
After the incident of molasses theft from the sugar mill last Thursday, the police recovered 13 drums of molasses from a graveyard in Hariharpur village adjacent to the sugar mill on Friday afternoon. The recovered molasses has been kept in the custody of the mill authorities. In this incident, the mill authorities filed a case with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station yesterday afternoon, mentioning the name of Momin involved in the molasses theft. In addition, an investigation committee has been formed to investigate the theft in more detail and the concerned authorities have assured to take action after investigation.
Abdullah Al Mahmud Khan Ratan, General Secretary of the Workers’ Union, said that the incident of theft related to the molasses pipe leakage of the mill is very unfortunate. Neither the mill authorities nor the workers’ union can be involved in such an act. The person who committed the incident is the contractor of the mill’s contractual labor recruitment. Legal action has been taken against him and a committee has been formed for an internal investigation.
Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monir Hossain said that the suspected worker Momin is absconding. Since no ownership of the recovered 13 drums of malassezia was found, it has been handed over to the mill authorities. A case has been filed in this regard and we are looking into the matter seriously.
Sugar mill managing director Shahjahan Kabir said that due to a leakage in the pipeline of the main house, some molasses mixed with water from a pond near the mill boundary. After learning about the matter, some molasses were rescued by our own manpower and brought to the mill. An investigation committee has been formed in this incident and legal action has been taken against those involved.
