A mobile court conducted a raid on the second floor of the Jessore District Bar Association building 2 and arrested three people, including the bride and groom, red-handed. However, the organizer of the wedding, lawyer Mizanur Rahman, escaped from the scene during the raid.
Eyewitnesses said that on Monday around 10 am, a 17-year-old teenager came to the lawyers’ bar with a friend. A 15-year-old girl wearing a school uniform was brought there as the bride. It is learned that the teenagers, who met through TikTok, had been in a love relationship for the past year. Based on that relationship, they decided to get married.
Lawyer Mizanur Rahman made all the arrangements for their wedding. As soon as the wedding was over, Executive Magistrate Tawmeed Hasan of the mobile court raided the place. Sensing the presence of the court, the accused lawyer Mizanur Rahman and Kazi quickly fled. Later, the magistrate arrested the bride, groom and the groom’s friend and took them to the office of the District Commissioner (DC).
Later, the judge of the mobile court, Executive Magistrate Tawmeed Hasan, summoned the bride and groom’s family. After discussions with both parties, according to the court’s conditions, they will remain in the custody of their respective families until the boy turns 21 and the girl turns 18. They were handed over to their families with a bond in this regard.
Locals allege that Advocate Mizanur Rahman and some other identified lawyers have been conducting such child marriage-related activities for a long time in exchange for a large sum of money. Lawyer Mizanur Rahman’s mobile phone was called several times to get his statement on the matter, but it was found switched off.
