As part of the initiative to construct a modern building of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station, it has been decided to demolish the current police station building and related facilities. For this reason, all the activities of the police station are being temporarily shifted to Chanchra Police Outpost in the city.
According to relevant sources, the activities of the police station will be shifted to Chanchra Outpost by April 5 and the demolition of the old building may start from April 10. All activities of the Kotwali Police Station will be conducted from there until the construction of the new building is completed.
The Jessore Public Works Department said that about 26 crore 72 lakh taka has been spent on the construction of the new building. This building, with an area of ​​about 26,000 square feet, will be built up to four floors on a 15th century land, but the foundation will be suitable for six floors. The building will have modern facilities including rooms for duty officers and officers in charge, an armory, reception, separate barracks for male and female police members. There will also be adequate parking facilities.
Superintendent Engineer of the Public Works Department, Zahidul Islam, said that it will be a modern and attractive police station building, which will ensure an improved working environment for police members. The entire construction work may take one and a half to two years to complete.
Meanwhile, three buildings, including the old police station building, have been sold for about 24 lakh 96 thousand taka to construct the new building. According to district police sources, Jessore contractor Mahbubur Rahman bought the buildings as the highest bidder. Of this, the police station building was sold for 9 lakh 26 thousand taka, the sub-inspectors’ quarters for 6 lakh 85 thousand taka and the assistant sub-inspectors’ quarters for 8 lakh 85 thousand taka.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Abul Bashar said that the tender process for the construction work has been completed and a contractor from Jhenaidah has been given the responsibility of the work. The work will start within the stipulated time.
He also said that the memorial of the four martyred policemen working at the Kotwali Police Station during the Great Liberation War will be removed for the construction work. However, after the construction of the building, a new beautiful memorial will be built in their memory.
