On the occasion of the great Independence and National Day 2026; Tribute to BMU

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) celebrated the great Independence and National Day 2026 through various arrangements and programs. The programs included hoisting the national flag on the university campus in the morning, a voluntary blood donation program organized by the Transfusion Medicine Department of BMU on the second floor of this block, paying tribute by laying wreaths at the Savar National Memorial, praying for peace, prosperity and progress of the country and the nation at the Central Mosque of the University after Zohar, serving high-quality food to patients at the university hospital, etc. In addition, the BMU administration paid tribute by laying wreaths at the graves of the great proclaimer of Bangladesh’s independence, the great martyr President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister and national leader Begum Khaleda Zia at the Shaheed Zia Shrine located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. During this time, BMU teachers, doctors, officials and employees offered prayers for the eternal peace of the souls of the great proclaimer of independence, martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. Later, senior officials of the BMU administration participated in a free blood group determination and voluntary blood donation program organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB). On the morning of Thursday, March 26, 2026, the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the voluntary blood donation program organized by the Department of Transfusion Medicine at the BMU campus. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Dean of the Faculty of Surgery Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Professor Dr. Md. Monir Hossain Khan, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Transfusion Medicine Professor Dr. Ayesha Khatun and others were present. Then, at the Savar National Memorial, under the leadership of Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Bangladesh Medical University, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Treasurer, Registrar, Deans, Chairmen of various departments, Office Heads, Teachers, Assistant Proctors, Students, Doctors, Officers, and Employees paid tribute by laying wreaths. After paying homage at the National Memorial, in response to a question from the journalists, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad respectfully remembered the martyrs of the great war of independence in 1971 and the martyrs of the July-August uprising and said, Bangladesh has reached today’s stage because it became independent. The country now has an environment of democracy and freedom of speech. Now is the time to move Bangladesh forward unitedly. For that purpose, everyone has to work from their respective positions. At this time, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader said, “To take the country forward, competent leadership is needed. Under the capable leadership of the current Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, that goal of taking the country forward will definitely be fulfilled.” Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar said, “The contribution of women in all fields, starting from our great liberation war, is immense. On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, our hope is that with the combined efforts of all, including men and women, Bangladesh will be developed and established at a high peak of dignity in the world.” Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam said, “After the mass uprising of the student population on August 5, 2024, the country has been freed from dictatorship. After the elections on February 12, 2026, Bangladesh has started walking on the path of democracy again. We firmly believe that this path will ensure the development of Bangladesh, bring smiles to the faces of the people, and usher in a new chapter of success in all sectors including education and healthcare.” BMU’s Assistant Proctor Associate Professor Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud, DAB Advisor and BMU Deputy Registrar (Law) Dr. Abu Hena Helal Uddin Ahmed, Associate Professor of the Department of Laboratory Medicine Dr. ASM Nowroz, BMU Physician Dr. Akbar Hossain, Deputy Registrar Sabina Yasmin, Deputy Controller of Examinations Md. Humayun Kabir, Officers Zisan Uddin Ahmed, Md. Ilias Khan, and other university teachers, students, physicians, officers, and employees were also present at the National Day program organized by BMU. After that, senior officials of the BMU administration paid tribute to the great proclaimer of Bangladesh’s independence, BNP founder, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, and former Prime Minister, BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia by laying wreaths at the tomb of Shaheed Zia and participated in the free blood group determination and voluntary blood donation program organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB). There, under the leadership of BMU DAB General Secretary and BMU Proctor Dr. Sheikh Farhad, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Registrar of BMU, as well as DAB leaders, spoke among them, including Central DAB Chief Advisor Dr. Farhad Halim Doner, Secretary General Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam Shakil, Senior Vice-President Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kenan, DAB Advisor Dr. Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Biswas Dambel, Vice President Professor Dr. Parimal Chandra Mallick, BMU DAB President and BMU Director (Planning and Development) Dr. Erfanul Haque Siddiqui, among others. At this time, the speakers said that the Honorable Prime Minister, the symbol of the hope and trust of the people of the country, the leader Tarique Rahman, has given family cards to the countrymen within a few days of assuming office, started the canal digging program, and will give health cards in the future. In the future, the development activities of the country along with the development of the people’s fortune will be more dynamic. Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) has been organizing timely programs in times of disaster and crisis in addition to various national days. Great arrangements like the voluntary blood donation program will continue in the coming days as well.
