Bangladesh Medical University BMU’s Laboratory Service Automation program has been inaugurated. Today, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Shaheed Dr. Milon Hall, the Vice-Chancellor of BMU, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, inaugurated the program as the chief guest. The special guests at the program were Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Honorable Director of IT Cell Professor Dr. AKM Akhtaruzzaman,  MD & CEO of Pubali Bank PLC Mr. Mohammad Ali. The program was presided over by Honorable Dean of the Faculty of Basic Science and Paraclinical Science of BMU and President of the Laboratory Service Steering Committee, Professor Dr. Saif Ullah Munshi. BMU Laboratory Service Automation Committee Chairman and Professor of Hematology Department Dr. Amin Lutful Kabir delivered the welcome speech and made a presentation on the automation activities. The program was attended by BMU Faculty of Medicine Dean Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed, Faculty of Surgery Dean Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim Siddique, Faculty of Medical Technology Dean Professor Dr. M Abu Hena Chowdhury, Department of Anesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine Chairman Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Kamal, Department of Laboratory Medicine Chairman Professor Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Director (Finance and Accounts) Mr. Khandaker Shafiqul Hasan Ratan, Director (Human Resource Management Department) Md. Masud Rana, and other respected teachers, departmental chairmen and office heads of various departments. The program was moderated by BMU Laboratory Service Automation Committee Member Secretary Dr. ASM Nowroz. Shaheed Dr. After the ceremony at Milon Hall, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam inaugurated the program by cutting the ribbon at OPD-2. As the laboratory service is automated, patients will be able to deposit the money for their required tests at the same place and give the sample at the nearest counter. This will eliminate the suffering of patients, it will be possible to provide reports in the fastest time and patients will be able to view their reports online. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said, the world has come a long way. We have to move forward in the same way. The quality of service has to be improved. Laboratory service automation is an essential issue. It will contribute to lab accreditation. At the same time, the various kinds of suffering that patients face while getting tests done will be eliminated. Patients will easily deposit the test money and get the report quickly by giving samples quickly. This very necessary activity for patients has come a long way. He also said, in this era of progress, the use of ‘AI’ is also essential at every level of the medical sector. Therefore, those concerned should be more focused on acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills in ‘AI’ now. Other speakers said that the automation of laboratory services has fulfilled an expectation of more than two decades. There is no alternative to advanced laboratory services for accurate treatment. Already, under the automation program, patients can take appointments online through tickets in the outpatient department of BMU. Already, lakhs of patients have taken appointments online. Step by step, all the necessary activities of BMU will be implemented under the automation program.
