Today, March 5, 2026, was Urology Day 2026 with the slogan ‘Modern Urology Services – Accessibility for All’. Various awareness programs including a rally were organized to mark the day. All these programs were inaugurated by BMU’s Associate Professor of Urology Department and BNP’s Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam. The program, moderated by BMU’s Associate Professor of Urology Department Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, was attended by BMU’s Chairman of Urology Department Professor Dr. Mohd. Saidul Islam, Professor Dr. Touhid Mohammad Saiful Hossain, Professor Dr. Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, Associate Professor Dr. SM Yunus Ali, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Ahiduzzaman, Associate Professor Dr. ASM Shafiul Azam, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Dr. Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, Dr. Srabanti Dhar, and teachers, physicians, residents, officers, nurses and staff of the Urology Department.
Urology Day is being observed to raise awareness. On the occasion of the day, doctors have emphasized on raising public awareness about diseases related to the urinary system and male reproductive system. According to doctors, urology is an important branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats various diseases of the human urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra) and male reproductive system. Common symptoms of urological diseases include burning sensation during urination, blood in urine, severe pain in the lower back or side of the abdomen, pain or swelling in the testicles, erectile dysfunction and sexual weakness, etc. The diseases treated under the urology department are enlarged prostate gland, prostate cancer, kidney and urethral stones, urinary retention, narrowing of the urinary tract, kidney, bladder and urethral cancer, male infertility and varicocele, prostate gland surgery, bladder tumor surgery, kidney stone surgery, urethral stone removal, stone and tumor removal through laser treatment, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, kidney transplant, etc. Experts say that drinking enough water every day, avoiding smoking, keeping diabetes and high blood pressure under control, and regular health check-ups are important to stay healthy. Experts also say that many urological diseases can be easily treated if detected at an early stage. Therefore, if any symptoms appear, it is important to consult the nearest urologist without delay.
