An international academic session titled 'Advances in Multiple Myeloma' was held as part of the 'Evidence-Based Clinical Oncology Lecture Series'. Honorable Treasurer of BMU Professor Nahrin Akhtar was present as the chief guest at the event . She said – Cancer is increasing rapidly in Bangladesh. Genomics, bio-bank, clinical trials, palliative care and nuclear medicine are very necessary to ensure modern treatment . Therefore, the establishment of a full-fledged Cancer Research Institute at BMU is the demand of the hour. He ordered the university to prepare a complete proposal and present it to the authorities quickly . The plan to establish a national standard ‘BMU Cancer Research Institute’ was highlighted in the speeches and discussions at the event. The proposed institute will have- Molecular & Genomic Research, Cancer Bio-bank and National, Cancer Registry, Clinical Trial Unit, AI & Digital Oncology, INMAS–BMU Nuclear Medicine Branch (PET-CT, SPECT, Radionuclide Therapy). Integrated research in Gynecological Oncology, Pediatric Hemato- Oncology, Hematology, Head-Neck Surgery, Neuro- Oncology, Palliative Medicine, Radiology and Pathology. Experts believe that the establishment of this institute will bring major progress in modern, affordable, and research-based cancer treatment in the country.
