A human chain has been formed in Durgapur, Netrakona to protest the killing of journalist Lutfuzzaman Fakir alias Alif Fakir and demand justice.

This activity was carried out under the banner of the Journalists’ Association on the road in front of the Netrakona District Press Club at 11 am today, Saturday (October 17).

Earlier, retired army member journalist Lutfuzzaman Fakir alias Alif Fakir was shot dead by miscreants in Telanju area of ​​Birishiri union of Durgapur upazila of Netrokona district at around 8:15 pm on Thursday (October 15). In this incident, journalist Alif Fakir’s wife Anandita Sangma filed a case with Durgapur police station at around 9:30 pm on Friday (October 16) against 7-8 unknown accused.

Speaking at the event were Netrokona District Press Club General Secretary Mahbubul Kibria Chowdhury Helim, journalist Shyamlendu Pal, freedom fighter Haider Jahan Chowdhury, journalist Abul Kalam and others.

The speakers demanded that the administration identify the assailants as soon as possible, subject to a fair investigation, and bring them under the law for exemplary punishment. At the same time, the wife of the deceased journalist Lutfuzzaman Fakir alias Alif Fakir, Anandita Sangma, and daughter Pranti Sangma, demanded that the state provide necessary facilities to their child, Safwan Fakir.

Speakers at the human chain said that the public shooting of a journalist has raised deep concerns about independent journalism, media security and the law and order situation. Journalists must be ensured their safety so that they can carry out their professional duties without fear. At the same time, those involved in the murder must be identified quickly, arrested and given exemplary punishment through a fair investigation.

The speakers also said that impunity for brutal incidents like the murder of journalists is not desirable in any way. If a proper investigation and speedy trial of this murder is not ensured, insecurity among journalists will increase further. The human chain strongly demanded that the relevant authorities unravel the mystery of the murder, arrest the criminals and ensure the safety of journalists.
