An elderly man was beaten to death by his adversary over a dispute over the boundary wall of his house in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha. The incident took place on Wednesday (October 7) morning in Chak Makra village of Rakhalburuj union of the upazila. An elderly man was beaten to death by his adversary over a dispute over the boundary wall of his house in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha.
The incident took place on Wednesday (October 7) morning in Chak Makra village of Rakhalburuj union of the upazila. The deceased was identified as Jahurul Islam (65), son of the deceased Momtazul Haque of Chak Makra village.
Locals said that the deceased Zahurul Islam had been in a long-standing dispute with his neighbor Jihad Akand and his family over land and house boundaries.
In the morning, Jihad Akand and his men went to build a boundary wall on the disputed land. At that time, when Zahurul Islam obstructed the boundary construction work, an argument started with the opponent Jihad Akand. At one point, Zahurul Islam was punched, kicked and beaten to the ground. As a result, he fell ill. When his relatives took Zahurul Islam to Gobindaganj Hospital in a seriously ill condition, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Gobindaganj Police Station OC Mahfuz Alam said that the opposing party has been hiding since the incident. A drive is underway to arrest them. The body has been recovered and sent to the district hospital for autopsy.
