At least 11 people from two opposing groups were injured in a fresh clash in Kotalipara, Gopalganj. The injured were rescued and admitted to Kotalipara Hospital and Gopalganj General Hospital.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning (October 1) beneath the ‘Boro Bridge’ (Big Bridge) in Gopalpur village of the upazila. Those admitted to Kotalipara Hospital include Nazrul Shikdar (50), Nafis Shikdar (22), Yasin Shikdar (24), Royal Shikdar (21), Akbar Shikdar (42), and Badal Shikdar (47)—all residents of Gopalpur village.
Meanwhile, members of the opposing group—Muzaffar Shikdar, Palash Shikdar, Shahidul Shikdar, Alamin Shikdar, and Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal Joint Convener Lavlu Shikdar—were reportedly admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital.
Among them, Shahidul Shikdar was transferred from Gopalganj General Hospital to Dhaka due to his critical condition.
On the other hand, among those initially admitted to Kotalipara Hospital, Nazrul, Nafis, Yasin, and Royal were transferred to Gopalganj General Hospital for advanced treatment; however, many others returned home after receiving primary medical care.
Nazrul Shikdar, while at Kotalipara Hospital, alleged that an altercation involving abusive language had taken place two days earlier between Palash Shikdar and Mahmud Shikdar. He claimed that three of their people were injured in an attack following their protest against that incident.
Stemming from this, the clash between the two groups erupted again this morning, leaving at least 11 people injured. Both sides have blamed each other for instigating the attack.
Badal Shikdar’s sister, Sabikunnahar, stated that Palash Shikdar and his associates launched an attack on Thursday morning, seriously injuring five members of their group. Conversely, Palash Shikdar claimed that Nazrul Shikdar and his group attacked them, seriously injuring five of their people. Dr. Md. Naim Hossain, the duty doctor at the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex emergency department, stated, “We provided initial treatment by suturing the patients’ wounds and have referred them to Gopalganj for a CT scan to check for internal bleeding.”
Md. Riad Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotalipara Police Station, said, “A complaint has been received from one party; legal action will be taken against the perpetrators following an investigation.”
