A clash broke out between followers of Sanatan and ISKCON religions at the Sri Sri Rasik Roy Geo Temple in Sikder Hat area of Auliapur Union in Bhulli Upazila of Thakurgaon. A clash broke out between followers of Sanatan and ISKCON religions at the Sri Sri Rasik Roy Geo Temple in Sikder Hat area of Auliapur Union in Bhulli Upazila of Thakurgaon. At least 9 people from both sides were injured in the incident and a tense situation prevails in the area.
Tension spread in the area around 10 am on Thursday (October 1) over the incident. Upon receiving the information, Bhulli police station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The situation later calmed down with the help of police and locals. It is learnt that the law and order situation in the area is currently normal following the incident.
The injured are Ranjit Roy of Kachubari village in Bhulli upazila, Nupur Roy, Payel Krishna Brahmachari of the same village, Basudeb Chandra and Apu Sarkar of Bhatgaon village. All of them are followers of traditional religion. In addition, the injured followers of ISKCON religion are Jitendra Nath, Champa Rani, Dakshanath Roy and Sohag Roy of Bhatgaon village in Auliapur union.
Locals said that when the traditional religious followers came to install the idol on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja, the ISKCON followers created obstacles and launched an ambush to establish dominance. This led to a clash between the supporters of the two sides, in which the nine people were injured.
It is worth mentioning that on September 18, 2009, a clash broke out in the temple over the dominance of Sanatan and ISKCON followers, and one person was killed. Since then, Section 144 has been imposed during worship in the temple for about 15 years. However, even though Durga Puja was held in the temple last year due to the intervention of the administration, this time before the worship began, locals have expressed doubts about the worship in the prevailing situation due to the dominance of the two sides.
