Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Israt Jahan Keya has ensured employment and income for a visually impaired person named Azharul Islam (25), who was in extreme financial distress, by investing new capital in his shop.

Azharul Islam is the son of Mazharul Islam, a daily wage laborer from Majerchar village in Palash upazila of Narsingdi. His father has been speech and hearing impaired since birth. Even four male members of Azharul’s family are suffering from physical or mental disabilities. Azharul, who grew up in extreme poverty, is also visually impaired (has only 5 to 10 percent vision). He walks around daily with this limited vision.

Azharul studied at primary school and Alia Madrasa for a while, but could not obtain any formal certificate due to his visual impairment. After he turned 20, his family arranged for him to get married. He currently has a son and daughter, Anifa (4) and Ashfaq (one and a half years old).

To run his family, Azharul used to sell children’s food from a small stall next to a local school next to his house. However, when his youngest son Ashfaq was born, the entire capital of the shop was exhausted due to medical expenses. As a result, he had to spend his idle time with an empty shop without goods. Later, even after picking up a few items from the shop with just 1,000 taka given by a passerby, it became impossible to meet the family’s expenses.

When the Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner came to know about his situation, he immediately took the initiative to stand by Azharul. He called Azharul to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and after hearing his story of hardship, handed over a cash check to rebuild the shop’s capital.

Azharul Islam, who was emotional after receiving the support, said, “When I had my second child, all the capital of the shop was exhausted due to medical expenses. I used to sit with an empty shop and pray and ask Allah for help. I am very happy with the way the Deputy Commissioner has provided me with financial assistance and provided me with income. With this help, my family will turn around again.

Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan Keya said that the matter is as humane as it is part of our responsibility towards the citizens. After receiving the news through a journalist, capital has been provided for his shop. This step has been taken out of responsibility towards the society and the country. Not only Azharul, the district administration is always ready to stand by any person who is a victim of such a situation.
