One road has become the cause of tears for thousands of people of 25 villages. The road has become completely impassable. Still, the people who travel on this road have to fight with muddy water. This suffering will not end without paving the road. The locals have demanded that the road be paved immediately.
Greater Erol Beel in Churamonkati Union of Jessore Sadar Upazila. Most of the farmers of Churamonkati, Kashimpur and Haibatpur Unions have their agricultural land in this beel. And the only road for them to travel is the main road of Dogachia village, which runs three kilometers in front of Azizul Islam’s house. Hundreds of farmers from 25 villages and people of Dogachia village travel on this road every day.
Currently, the rainy season is going on. This rain has created such a condition on this road that it is no longer possible to travel. The entire 3-kilometer road is muddy. Even though the local union council has dug a few hundred yards, that part has been completely destroyed by the water. On the spot, it was found that farmers from several unions have 10,000 bighas of arable land in the Eral Beel. The farmers cultivate paddy there. In addition, more than 150 families live on both sides of the road.
The road is so important that hundreds of farmers and people living here have to use it as the only road for transportation every day. There is no alternative road.
The locals claim that if this road is paved and connected to the Kayemkola road directly through Maligati of Pashapole Union, it will be a great convenience for the people of 4/5 unions. In addition, farmers will be able to take their field crops home at a much lower cost.
A person named Golam Nabi from Dogachia village said, although the road was once passable, it has been completely destroyed in this rain. We have to go to our house through knee-deep mud. Our children have to go to school through knee-deep mud, which is very painful.
Monir Uddin Mono of the same village said, “Even if we come home with difficulty, we cannot carry fertilizer to the field through the mud.” In addition, farmers are now in even more trouble after planting jute on hundreds of bighas of land in the field. Many of their jute and jute sticks are lying in the field.
Rural doctor Bappi said, “We have to go waist-deep in mud in front of my house. Farmers are not even able to carry fertilizer and pesticides to the field.” Farmer Tariqul Islam of Ahsannagar village said, “When I see the difficulty of our children going to school, I feel like not letting them go to school anymore and making them stay at home.” Van driver Sanaullah said, “There is so much mud that we cannot take our car home. We leave our car at someone else’s house, which makes us constantly afraid of theft. Moreover, we are afraid of even having any relatives come to our neighborhood.”
Churamonkati Union Parishad Chairman Daud Hossain said, “As much as possible, our Union Parishad has repaired the road several times and paved several hundred yards. But so much water accumulates here during the rain that the road is damaged. If the road is paved, the suffering of thousands of farmers in 25 villages will be alleviated.” Churamonkati Union BNP General Secretary Master Mizanur Rahman said, “There is no other solution here except paving the road.” Our honorable Member of Parliament for Jessore Sadar constituency, State Minister for Power, Energy and Minerals Anindya Islam Amit Bhai, is aware of the road. He is trying to pave the road with utmost importance.
The locals have demanded that the road be paved quickly.
