Police and locals said the first explosion occurred in front of the residence of former Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Abu Solaiman Sarkar Saja at dawn on Sunday. Two minutes later, a second explosion occurred in front of Gopalcharan High School. Two minutes later, a third explosion occurred on the road south of the school.

Abu Solaiman Sarkar Saja, former vice chairman of Sundarganj Upazila Parishad, said, “Before dawn, there was a loud noise in front of my house. A short while later, I heard two more explosions in front of the school and then on the road south of the school.”

He said, “We were terrified by three loud noises in a row. Hearing the noise, we came out of the house and saw the people around us outside. Later, when we informed the police, they came to the spot and took away the cocktail shells.”

Confirming the matter, Sundarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mohammad Amanullah said, “A cocktail-like object has been recovered from the scene. The matter is being investigated. Legal action will be taken after identifying those involved in the incident.”
