A unique initiative titled “Dengue Free DU Photo Hunt” is set to be launched at Dhaka University (DU) to raise public awareness and eliminate potential Aedes mosquito breeding sites across the campus through active student participation.

Organized by the ‘Dhaka University Civic Initiative’, the campaign will run from September 20 to 25. It is being implemented under the supervision and sponsorship of Md. Tariqul Islam Tarique, Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Central Committee.

Operating under the theme – “Find. Click. Report.”, the program invites students to identify and report stagnant water, flower pots, discarded items, and other vulnerable breeding spots near residential halls, academic buildings, and surrounding areas.

To participate, students must photograph potential breeding sites, provide the exact location and a brief description of the issue, and suggest long-term solutions to keep the area clean. The posts must then be shared on their personal Facebook profiles using the designated hashtags: #FindClickReport, #DengueFreeDUCampus, and #DhakaUniversityCivicInitiative.

Organizers highlighted that the campaign is not merely a photography contest, but a crowd sourced campus reporting initiative aimed at rapidly pinpointing high-risk areas and fostering civic responsibility.

Winners will be evaluated based on social media engagement—likes, comments, and shares—alongside the relevance of the image, the severity of the reported issue, accuracy of location details, and the quality of proposed solutions.

The top three winners will receive cash prizes of TK 12,000, TK 8,000, and TK 5,000, respectively. Participants ranking 4th to 10th will be awarded books and plant saplings. In addition, certificates titled “University Hero” will be presented to participants.

Speaking about the initiative, JCD leader Tariqul Islam Tarique said, “Preventing dengue is not the sole responsibility of the administration; students, as conscious citizens, also have a vital role to play. A single photo or piece of information can be crucial in identifying and mitigating potential health hazards.”

He added that the core objective of the drive is to build a culture of environmental awareness, civic engagement, and accountability toward the campus community.
