The main road of Das Gariago Samaj in Ward No. 7 of Char Lawrence Union No. 3 of Kamalnagar Upazila of Lakshmipur district has collapsed, cutting off communication. As a result, a risky bamboo bridge has become the only hope for school-going students and local people to move around.

According to local sources, the road suddenly collapsed due to the strong impact of the Meghna River’s tidal waters. As a result, thousands of local residents, school, college and madrasa students who use this road every day have suffered greatly.

Abul Kalam, a resident of the area, said, “Hundreds of young students of Mahe Alam Mia Primary School have to cross this risky bridge every day, risking their lives. Besides, thousands of people travel to Char Lawrence Bazar using this single route. Since there is no alternative arrangement, there is a risk of a major accident at any moment.”

Angry locals fear that the entire area will be completely cut off from communication unless a permanent bridge or culvert is built on the road soon. They strongly demand that a permanent bridge or culvert be constructed in place of the bamboo culvert as soon as possible to alleviate this endless suffering of the people.

In this regard, Kamalnagar Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) said, “We will inspect the matter on the spot. Later, we will discuss the matter and take measures to bring the necessary allocation quickly.”
