Woman Arrested with 70 Litres of Homemade Liquor in Shalla
Police have arrested a woman with 70 litres of locally made illicit liquor in Shalla upazila of Sunamganj. The woman, identified as Selina Akter, 35, was arrested on Tuesday (September 15) during a police operation conducted in different areas of the upazila under the direction of the Sunamganj Police Superintendent. Police have arrested a woman with 70 litres of locally made illicit liquor in Shalla upazila of Sunamganj.
The woman, identified as Selina Akter, 35, was arrested on Tuesday (September 15) during a police operation conducted in different areas of the upazila under the direction of the Sunamganj Police Superintendent.
Selina Akter is the wife of Md. Ashik Mia, a resident of Darain Bazar area in Kashipur village under Habibpur Union No. 2 of Shalla upazila.
According to Shalla police, a team led by Sub-Inspector Md. Shahjahan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Golam Kibria, along with other members of the force, conducted an operation and arrested Selina with 70 litres of locally made illicit liquor.
A case has subsequently been filed against her under Section 36(1), Schedule 24(b)/38 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. The case was registered at Shalla Police Station as Case No. 4, dated September 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, a businessman from Darain Bazar, wishing to remain anonymous, alleged that Selina had been involved in the illegal liquor trade for quite some time.
“We know about the matter, but we do not have the courage to speak out against them,” he said.
Speaking on the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shalla Police Station Mohammad Sohel said, “Our anti-drug operations will continue. A zero-tolerance policy against drugs will be implemented.”
Police said the arrested accused was sent to the competent court under proper police escort.
