Three businessmen fined for anti-push campaign in Paikgachha
Three traders have been fined a total of Tk 10,000 for allegedly planting illegal substances in shrimp and processing fish and fish products in an unhygienic environment in Paikgachha, Khulna. At that time, 10 kg of the planted shrimp were seized and buried in the ground to be destroyed. A raid was conducted in the Paschim Kainmukh and Chalubunia areas adjacent to the intersection of Soladana Union in the upazila on Wednesday (September 16) morning. The raid, conducted based on secret information, was led by Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Saikat Mallick.
Meanwhile, evidence was found of adulteration of Bagda shrimp and handling of fish and fish products in unhygienic conditions in some shrimp trading establishments. Later, three traders were fined. One of them was fined 7 thousand taka, one 2 thousand taka and the other 1 thousand taka.
The fine was immediately collected as per the Fisheries and Fishery Products (Inspection and Quality Control) Act. At the same time, the 10 kg of smuggled shrimp were buried in the ground and destroyed.
Naval Police outpost SI Jayanta Kumar, Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer’s Office Field Assistant Randhir Sarkar and other members of the Naval Police were present in the operation.
Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Saikat Mallick said, “A huge amount of foreign exchange is earned every year from shrimp, one of Bangladesh’s major exports. The country’s shrimp export market can be damaged due to the contamination of shrimp and the handling of fish and fishery products in unhygienic environments. Therefore, regular campaigns are being conducted to maintain the quality of shrimp and the country’s export reputation. Such campaigns will continue in the future as well.”
