Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) hosted The Agriculturist Olympiad 2026 on Wednesday evening, bringing together around 500 students in a celebration of agricultural knowledge, talent and career aspirations. Organised by the GAU branch of the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) Bangladesh, with sponsorship from Qamarun Agro Farm, the event featured an award-giving ceremony and a career counselling session at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium. GAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman attended the program as chief guest, while Treasurer Professor Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad was present as special guest. Director of Research Professor Dr Md. Moshiul Islam and faculty members were also present. In the career counselling session, Dr Sattwikesh Paul, Associate Professor of Surgery and Radiology at GAU, spoke on higher education and career opportunities abroad, while Md Hasibul Hasan, Agriculture Officer of Kaliganj, Gazipur, discussed careers in public service. Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the vital contribution of agricultural professionals to global food security, sustainable development and agricultural transformation. He urged students to set clear goals, build their skills and pursue careers with dedication and confidence, drawing on his own professional journey. Among 500 registered participants, the top 10 performers received prizes, crests and certificates. Mst. Tafassia Tawhid won first place, followed by Md Muit Al Zubair in second and Sabrina Salam in third. The programme concluded with a closing speech by Taufiqul Islam, Local Director of IAAS Bangladesh, GAU branch.
