A rally and special seminar were held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day 2026. Thursday, September 10, 2026, a colorful rally was organized in front of BMU’s B-Block under the initiative of the Department of Psychiatry with the slogan ‘Change the Narrative on Suicide, Start the Conversation’. Later, a special seminar titled ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide: Start the Conversation’ was organized at the A-Block Auditorium under the initiative of BMU’s Central Seminar Sub-Committee. In these events, the causes of suicide, various preventive measures and things to do were discussed in detail, along with increasing public awareness and building social movements to prevent suicide, and various scientific articles were presented. The chief guest at these events was the Vice Chancellor of BMU, Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui. The special guests at the special seminar were the Honorable Vice Chancellor (Academic) of BMU, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Kamal, Proctor Professor Dr. Sheikh Farhad. Scientific papers were presented by Professor Dr. Nahid Mahjabin Morshed, Dr. Raisa Rahnuma Karim and Dr. Maksud Bin Salam Apurba. The panel of experts was Professor Dr. Md. Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Professor Dr. Md. Mohsin Ali Shah, Professor Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin. The Central Seminar Sub-Committee Chairman Professor Dr. Afzalun Nesa presided over the meeting and Assistant Professor Dr. Khaled Mahbub Murshed (Mamun) moderated the meeting. The vote of thanks was delivered by Professor Dr. MMA Salauddin Kausar (Biplob), Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry.
