Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Chairman Shamsuzzaman Suruj said, Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation is a state-owned institution. This institution works more for the interests of the people than for profit and loss. Thinking about the interests of the people, we produce sugar at a price of 300 taka per kg and sell it at a price of 120 to 120 taka.

He made these remarks to reporters after visiting the sugar mill in Thakurgaon on a two-day official visit on September 6 and 7.

The BSFIC Chairman further said, “All our sugar mills are about 50-60 years old, but the Thakurgaon Sugar Mill is a century old. After inspecting them, I found that most of the machinery here is from the Mandhatya period. We have done BMRE in almost every sugar mill, including the Thakurgaon Sugar Mill. By doing this, we will be able to start distilling projects in these sugar mills and work on various projects including by-products produced from sugar such as ethanol, organic fertilizer, and power generation. Then these sugar mills will be saved from losses and if the sugar mills are running, countless people will be employed.”

During the inspection of the mill, he identified the weak points of the mill and assured to resolve them as soon as possible.

It is learnt that newly appointed Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation, Shamsuzzaman Suruj, has been continuously inspecting the sugar mills under the corporation to revive the sugar mills that are continuously incurring losses. In continuation of this, he has come to Thakurgaon on a two-day official visit.

Upon reaching the guest house of Thakurgaon Sugar Mill, he was welcomed with floral greetings by Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Limited Managing Director Humayun Kabir and Thakurgaon Sugar Mills General Manager (Agriculture) Abu Raihan.

Present with him at the time were Thakurgaon Sugar Mill General Manager (Finance) Saiful Islam, General Manager (Factory) Nurul Amin, General Manager (Administration) Subhash Chandra Singha, DGM (Extension) Tajirul Islam, Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Workers’ and Employees’ Federation President Abdul Quddus and Thachik Workers’ Union President Abdulla Al Mahmud Khan Ratan, General Secretary Abdullah Al Mahmud Khan Ratan, and senior officials of the mill, workers, and employees.

Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Limited Managing Director Humayon Kabir expressed hope that the BSFIC Chairman’s visit will be a milestone for Thakurgaon Sugar Mills.
