The state-of-the-art ‘C-Arm’ (C-Arm) Fluoroscopy Imaging Machine has been inaugurated in the Orthopedic Operation Theater of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) with the aim of further improving and modernizing the quality of medical services. On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, this modern medical technology was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui, in a simple ceremony on the 10th floor of the university’s cabin block. The introduction of the state-of-the-art C-Arm machine has added a new dimension to the orthopedic surgery services of Bangladesh Medical University. With the facility of directly viewing real-time or live X-ray images of the patient’s bones during the operation, it will be possible to perform complex bone surgeries more safely, accurately and effectively. As a result, the precision in complex surgeries will increase. During the inauguration, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said, Bangladesh Medical University is always committed to providing world-class medical services to patients. This modern C-arm machine will further enhance the efficiency of our orthopedic surgeons. Patients with complex bone fractures will now receive international standard modern surgical services at a very affordable price in the country. He further said, continuous efforts will continue to make the university’s medical services more advanced and people-friendly through the addition of modern medical technology. BMU Proctor and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery Department Dr. Sheikh Farhad said, “With C-arm technology, surgeons will be able to directly monitor the position of the broken bone and the progress of the surgery during the operation. As a result, it will be possible to immediately confirm whether the screws, plates, rods, implants and K-wires used in fracture treatment have been placed in the correct position or not. One of the important advantages of this technology is the opportunity to perform surgery through minimally invasive surgery or minimal incisions. As a result, in many cases, it will be possible to treat complex fractures through small incisions instead of large incisions. With the live imaging facility during the operation, which helps in the speedy recovery of the patient, surgeons will be able to make quick and precise decisions. This will reduce the surgical time as well as unnecessary incisions and tissue damage. As a result, the risk of bleeding and infection will be reduced, and the chances of the patient recovering quickly will also increase. Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, said that the new generation digital C-arm technology will provide a safer environment for patients and doctors, nurses and other health workers working in the operation theatre, as it has the advantage of using relatively low radiation doses. The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor’s Private Secretary-1 Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Hossain, respected teachers, doctors, residents, nurses and various levels of officials and employees of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Bangladesh Medical University. Edited by Dr. Md. Saiful Azam Ranju and Prashant Majumder.
