The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Yusuf Ali (40), the director of the ‘New Ruposhi Bangla’ clinic, on charges of raping an eighth-grade student in Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat. He was arrested in a raid in the early hours of August 24. Arrested Yusuf Ali is the son of the deceased Asmat Ali of Kanchanshar village under Kaliganj police station.

The case file reveals that accused Yusuf Ali is the neighbor of the victim girl. On August 20, the mother of the victim girl went to Lalmonirhat for treatment as her six-month-old younger brother was sick. Taking the opportunity to leave the house alone, accused Yusuf entered the house, hugged the child from behind and forcibly raped her. When the people around came to the rescue due to the child’s screams, accused Yusuf fled the scene. Upon hearing the news of the incident, the victim girl’s mother returned home from Lalmonirhat and admitted the victim girl to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment. When her condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty sent her to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

In this incident, on July 21, 2026, the victim’s mother filed a rape case with Kaliganj Police Station (Case No. 40). After the incident, the accused went into hiding to avoid arrest.

Considering the importance of the case, RAB-13 intensified intelligence surveillance to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, based on specific intelligence information, on 24 August 2026 at 03.20 am, a raid was conducted at the residence of Ershad Ali of Chaparhat Chabbis Hazar village under Kaliganj police station in Lalmonirhat district and Yusuf Ali (40), the main accused in the controversial child rape case of Kaliganj police station, was arrested.

The arrested accused has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action. It is also learnt that RAB’s regular operations will continue to curb serious crimes like murder, kidnapping, rape and other heinous crimes from the society.
