Police have unraveled the mystery surrounding the murder of a woman named Marina Begum (45) in Dhamairhat, Naogaon, after she was strangled to death and then doused with petrol and set on fire. Two people, including former UP member Babul Hossain, who masterminded the murder, have been arrested within 12 hours of the case being filed. Police have unraveled the mystery surrounding the murder of a woman named Marina Begum (45) in Dhamairhat, Naogaon, after she was strangled to death and then doused with petrol and set on fire. Two people, including former UP member Babul Hossain, who masterminded the murder, have been arrested within 12 hours of the case being filed.
The arrested are Babul Hossain (49), a former UP member of Morlai village in Dhamairhat upazila, and Tarique Rahman (21), a resident of the same area.
Police Superintendent Tariqul Islam said at the press conference that Marina Begum’s husband and son lived in Comilla for livelihood. On this occasion, she developed an extramarital affair with former UP member Babul. Later, when he pressured her to marry him, Babul planned to kill Marina.
As planned, Marina was called from her home on August 16 under the pretext of marriage. She was later taken to a secluded mango orchard and strangled to death with Tariq’s belt. To conceal her identity, petrol was poured over her body and set on fire.
Police recovered the body from a mango orchard in the Valkadanga area on the evening of August 18. At the same time, when Marina’s son went to the police station to file a missing person’s report, he identified the body as his mother.
Based on information technology and local information, Babul and later Tarek were arrested in a raid. According to the information provided by them, the belt and shoe bag used in the murder were recovered.
He also said that several other accomplices are involved in the incident. A drive is underway to arrest them.
