There was a clash and chase between two factions of the Chhatra Dal at Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NOSUT). The clash took place at around 2 pm on Tuesday (August 18) in different areas of the university campus. The clash was centered around a fight that started at midnight. A total of 9 students, including a journalist, were injured in the incident and an outsider was arrested and handed over to the police. Eyewitnesses said that tension was created at around 2 pm when a group of Chhatra Dal suddenly attacked the university campus. At one stage, it turned into a clash. At that time, chases and chases took place between the two factions at different places on the campus. This spread panic among the general students. At that time, several outsiders were seen taking part in the clash with sticks, eyewitnesses said. The incident of outsiders getting involved in a clash on the campus with sticks in their hands created anxiety and panic among the students. The university’s vice-chancellor, deputy vice-chancellor, treasurer, proctor and other people from various levels of administration arrived at the scene to control the situation. The clash continued for some time even in the presence of administration officials. Later, arrangements were made to send the injured to the medical center for treatment and the outsiders were taken to the proctor’s office. The students injured in the afternoon clash are Shamim Hossain of the 15th batch, Sohag Chakma of the 17th batch of ICE, Mahmudul Hasan Antar of the 17th batch of THM, Kaif Hasan of the 17th batch of DBA, and Zahir Hossain of the 18th batch of DBA. In addition, a journalist from the press club was injured while performing his duties. The injured were treated at the Nobi Probi Medical Center. The injured were taken to Noakhali General Hospital for primary treatment. Earlier, Anisur Rahman Sifat, an 18th batch student of Statistics, Zahidul Islam Hasan, a 15th batch student of Applied Mathematics, and Samiul Islam, a 19th batch student of Agriculture, were injured in the attack early in the morning. At that time, allegations were made that two journalists were harassed while performing their professional duties. Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani said, “I personally went to the scene to witness the overall situation on the campus and take necessary measures quickly. The administration, teachers, and officials are working together to control the situation. At the moment, there is no need for any additional external law enforcement forces inside the campus. However, if necessary, considering the situation, necessary steps will be taken later.” Terming last night’s incident as undesirable, the Vice Chancellor said, “I came to inspect the scene immediately after being informed about today’s incident. The undesirable chaos has already been eliminated. A decision will be made to identify those involved in the incident and take strict administrative and legal action. An investigation committee will be formed quickly to investigate the incident properly and instructions will be given to submit a report within the stipulated time.”
