A University Central Seminar titled ‘Dengue 2026: Updates on Emerging Challenges and Clinical Management’ was held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). The seminar, organized by the Central Seminar Sub-Committee at the A Block Auditorium of the university on Monday, August 17, 2026, was attended by teachers, doctors and resident students of the university. Speaking as the chief guest at the seminar, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said that the outbreak of dengue may increase further in the country in September, October and December. Bangladesh Medical University has made necessary preparations to provide medical services to patients to deal with the possible situation. He said that the preparation of doctors and hospital authorities alone is not enough to deal with dengue. To control and prevent the outbreak of dengue, comprehensive social awareness should be created by involving the city corporation, related government and private institutions, educational institutions and people from all walks of life. In addition to destroying the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, which carry dengue, and strengthening cleanliness activities, coordinated efforts are needed to ensure preventive behavior among the people. Speaking as a special guest at the seminar, the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam said, “When people are infected with dengue, it is most important to diagnose the patients at the right time. If the disease is not diagnosed at the right time, the patient’s condition may deteriorate, so it is important to diagnose the disease and provide proper treatment.” The seminar emphasized the current situation of dengue, the complications of the disease, timely diagnosis and appropriate medical management. In particular, the need for rapid decision-making in the treatment of dengue patients, identification of high-risk patients and integrated management of treatment at the hospital level was highlighted. Dr. S. M. Rashed Ul Islam, Associate Professor of the Department of Virology, BMU, presented a scientific paper at the seminar. He discussed the topic ‘The Changing Landscape of Dengue in Bangladesh: Serotype Dynamics and Disease Severity’. Dr. Khaled Mahbub Murshed, Assistant Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine, BMU, presented a scientific paper on ‘Updated Clinical Management of Dengue’. BMU’s Professor of Virology Department and Chairman of the Central Seminar Sub-Committee, Professor Dr. Afzalun Nesa, chaired the seminar, which was attended by BMU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Kamal. BMU’s Central Seminar Sub-Committee Member and Chief Associate Professor Dr. DMM Faruk Osmani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics, Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Dental Dean Professor Dr. Sakhawat Hossain Sayant, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Technology, Professor Dr. Abu Hena Chowdhury, and chairmen of various departments, teachers, doctors, and resident students were present. The seminar placed special emphasis on increasing public awareness on dengue prevention, early detection of the disease, increasing the capacity of the medical system, and strengthening coordination between doctors, health institutions, and relevant government and private organizations.
