Although it is difficult to go against the tide in the face of many adversities, Sufia Akhter has been able to do so. This time, she is embarking on a new path- experienced banker Sufia Akhter has joined United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) as Deputy Managing Director (DMD). In her new role, she will lead the bank’s wholesale banking department. In the banking sector, she played a key role in establishing the Transaction Banking Division at Bank Asia PLC and under her leadership, the division achieved significant business growth. She has also held various important positions at HSBC, Standard Chartered, Citibank, Meghna Bank and Bank Asia. She has extensive expertise in Corporate Banking, Transaction Banking, Cash Management, Trade Finance, Treasury Solutions and Working Capital Financing. She is a graduate of the globally recognized Future CEO Program and Future CEO Leadership Recharge Program (WSDA, New Zealand). Her joining UCB is expected to further strengthen the bank’s wholesale banking operations. In addition, Sufia Akhter will be able to become a banker who is friendly to all classes.
