The Executive Council elections 2026-2029 of the Bangladesh National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) were held in a festive atmosphere on Friday, July 24, at the Super Kitchen Restaurant in Shahbagh, Dhaka. Md. Serajul Islam, Keeper of the Bangladesh National Museum, was elected as the Chairperson and Dr. Sikder Md. The election was conducted by a five-member election committee led by Dr. Maliha Nargis Ahmed, Professor of the Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University. The committee successfully completed the entire election process in a fair, impartial and transparent environment. After the election, the President of ICOM Bangladesh for the term 2023-2026, Professor of the Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University, Dr. Sufi Mostafizur Rahman, sincerely congratulated and wished the newly elected Executive Council. He wished the newly elected committee success and expressed hope that the new committee will play an important role in the development of the museum sector in Bangladesh, professional excellence, research, heritage preservation and increasing international cooperation. The newly elected Executive Council is expected to play an effective role in supporting the development of museums in Bangladesh, building the capacity of museum professionals, expanding the international network related to museums, and implementing the policies and ideals of ICOM during the next term of 2026-2029.
