Ticket Examiner (TTE) Suman, accused of beating Rajshahi University (RU) student Furkan Uddin on a train, has been temporarily suspended. At the same time, five decisions have been taken, including the formation of two committees for a higher investigation.

Rail communication with Rajshahi across the country was normalized after an eight-hour blockade on Tuesday (July 21) at around 3:30 pm, as the students’ four-point demands were accepted.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of the administration, railway authorities and representatives of Rajshahi University at the Divisional Commissioner’s office. One committee will investigate the internal affairs of the railway. The other committee will have representatives of the Additional District Magistrate, Railway Security Force and the university.

In addition, it has been decided to provide medical treatment to the affected students, provide treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital if necessary, and start intercity train stoppage at Rajshahi University Station late at night. Another meeting will be held on August 6 to review the progress.

Raksur GS Salauddin Ammar said that the students have lifted the blockade after the administration took a positive decision on their reasonable demands. He expressed hope that the investigation committees will work impartially and action will be taken against those responsible.

Earlier, RU students blocked the railway line since Tuesday morning demanding punishment of TTE and a fair investigation. As a result, rail communication was closed for several hours, causing trains to be stranded at various stations and passengers to suffer. After the decision in the meeting, the students withdrew the blockade and train services returned to normal.
