Union Parishad Member Arrested with 30 Litres of Illicit Liquor
Police in Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member and his associate during a raid, recovering 30 litres of locally produced illicit liquor (cholai). According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Imam Arefin conducted a raid at around 11:00 pm on July 13 in the Uttarpara area of Bahara village under Bahara Union No. 3 in Shalla Upazila. Police in Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member and his associate during a raid, recovering 30 litres of locally produced illicit liquor (cholai).

Following information provided by the detainees, police recovered a total of 30 litres of locally produced illicit liquor from three plastic containers hidden under a bed in the bedroom of Jibesh Das’s residence. The seized liquor is estimated to be worth approximately BDT 15,000.
A case has been filed with Shalla Police Station under Section 36(1), Schedule 24(b) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 (Case No. 09, dated July 14, 2026).
