Due to internal conflict between bus owners and workers, bus services have been suspended indefinitely on all routes from Rajshahi. The sudden decision was announced on Monday evening. Hundreds of passengers from Dhaka and various destinations in the country have been facing extreme hardship due to the sudden suspension of long-distance and inter-district bus services without prior notice.

Visiting various bus terminals in Rajshahi, it is seen that numerous passengers are waiting for buses. Many people who have come to Dhaka or other districts for urgent needs and are unable to get a bus are trying to travel by alternative means of transport.

According to relevant sources, the deadlock was mainly caused by the conflict over the formation of the Motor Workers Union’s committee. Earlier, bus services were suspended on May 18 for the same reason. At that time, the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation announced a new 21-member committee, in which Rafiqul Islam Pakhi was made the president and Mominul Islam Momin was made the general secretary. However, a section of the workers went on a movement to protest the formation of this committee without a general election. Due to the ongoing conflict, bus services were suspended on all routes again on Monday.

As of last news, there is no information about any effective initiative to resolve this conflict between the owner and the workers. As a result, there is a risk that this suffering of ordinary passengers will continue until the situation normalizes.
