This reception and equipment distribution ceremony was organized at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Saturday (July 11) at 11 am under the initiative of the Upazila Sports Association.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Upazila Sports Association President Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury presided over the program, and Upazila Sports Association member Jamilur Rahman Rana delivered the welcome speech and conducted the program. Upazila Sports Association member GM Mizanur Rahman, Sports Association coaches Kamruzzaman Joni and Shahinur Rahman Ranju were present as the guests of honor at the program. Local sports organizers and dignitaries also present at the time were Advocate Manjurul Islam, Maruf Ahmed, Ramzan Hossain, Shamim Morshed, Raju Ahmed, Mintu Kumar Shaha, Md. Jalil, Abdul Bashar and Nadim Ahmed, along with local trainers and a large number of sports enthusiasts.
At the ceremony, the meritorious players who achieved success in various events for Paikgachha Upazila at the district level of ‘Natun Kuri Sports-2026’ were formally honored with medals, certificates and sports equipment. In this year’s event, 14 players who became district champions in cricket, two women and one man who secured first place in swimming and one woman who secured second place were felicitated. In addition, one man and one woman who secured first place in 200-meter run, one woman who secured first place in long jump and meritorious male and female athletes who secured first, second and third places in martial arts were presented with commemorative mementos.
In his speech, UNO Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury congratulated the athletes and said that sports play a unique role in the physical and mental development of the young generation. These new buds of today will make Paikgachha and the country’s name shine at the national and international levels in the future. Stating that there is no alternative to sports practice in building a drug-free and healthy society, he further said that the Upazila administration and Upazila Sports Organization will always be by the side of the players to maintain this sports tide of Paikgachha and will continue to provide all necessary cooperation and sponsorship. Other speakers at the event also highly appreciated the role of local coaches and organizers in creating such new talents from the grassroots level.
