World Environment Day 2026 was celebrated in Thakurgaon with the theme: Today’s Action, Tomorrow’s Security.
A colorful rally, jointly organized by the district administration and the Department of Environment, began on Thursday morning from the district collectorate premises and circled various roads in the city before ending at the same place. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the district administration hall.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque spoke as the chief guest at the discussion meeting. Additional Superintendent of Police Alamgir Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Haque Sumon, Assistant Director of the District Environment Department Tamim Hasan and District Fire Service and Civil Defense Inspector Mozammel Haque spoke as special guests. Officials of various government departments, teachers, students and representatives of civil society were also present.
The speakers at the discussion called on everyone to play a conscious and responsible role in protecting the environment, planting trees, reducing plastic use, and protecting natural resources to combat the adverse effects of climate change. At the same time, importance was laid on taking collective initiatives to maintain the environmental balance of the district.
Students from various educational institutions of the district participated in the drawing competition organized to mark the day. At the end of the program, the guests presented prizes to the winners of the competition.
