In the first six months of 2026, the Brahmanbaria District Narcotics Control Department conducted extensive operations and public awareness programs in nine upazilas of the district to eradicate and control drugs. In the first six months of 2026, the Brahmanbaria District Narcotics Control Department conducted extensive operations and public awareness programs in nine upazilas of the district to eradicate and control drugs. During the same period, 1,321 operations, 222 cases and 236 accused were arrested in special operations against drug dealers.
According to the department’s six-month report, 223 operations were conducted in January, 172 in February, 202 in March, 207 in April, 251 in May, and 266 in June.
In these operations, 46 cases were filed in January, 30 in February, 36 in March, 33 in April, 37 in May and 40 in June. The total number of cases is 222. At the same time, 236 accused were arrested.
A total of 417.838 kg of marijuana, 15,435 pieces of Yaba, 16 liters of 100 ml of distilled liquor, 28 bottles of Escafe, 7 bottles of beer and 5 bottles of foreign liquor were seized in the operation. In addition, 2 CNG, 2 pickups, 1 microbus, 11 mobile phones, 2 CCTV cameras and 66,000 taka cash were recovered.
In addition to law enforcement, the department has also given importance to raising public awareness. In six months, 1 anti-drug cricket tournament, 4 debate competitions, discussion meetings in more than 10 educational institutions, 82 street meetings, 2 rallies, 2 gatherings, 1 workshop, 1 discussion and iftar mahfil, several pre-Friday prayer discussions and 3 discussion meetings through social organizations have been held in nine upazilas of the district.
In addition, about 7,000 anti-drug leaflets have been distributed among the general public. 200 geometry boxes, 200 notebooks, 200 pens, 200 scales and 10 school bags have been distributed among students.
Brahmanbaria District Narcotics Control Department Director Sajedul Hasan said that numerous discussion meetings, seminars and public awareness programs have been organized in collaboration with various social organizations to create anti-drug awareness. More than three lakh taka has been spent on these activities.
He said, “Our ultimate goal is to protect the youth from the dangers of drugs. To that end, we are making every effort to control drugs and increase awareness.”
He also said that if a Narcotics Control Department office can be established in each upazila of Brahmanbaria district, the district’s drug control activities will be more effective.
As an example, he said, “Suppose a drug dealer enters Bancharampur with drugs. If someone from there gives us information, the dealer may go to Araihazar in Narayanganj before reaching the spot from Brahmanbaria Sadar. Therefore, if there is an office at the upazila level, it will be possible to conduct a quick operation.”
The director further said that currently, there are only 33 people working in the Brahmanbaria district office. A significant number of these officers and employees have to perform administrative duties of the office. As a result, it becomes very difficult to conduct drug control activities in the entire district with a limited number of field officers.
Officials of the Narcotics Control Department said that not only the campaign against drugs, but also creating social awareness is equally important. Therefore, regular awareness programs and special campaigns are being conducted simultaneously in every upazila of the district. They said that strict campaigns and public awareness programs against drug dealers will continue in the future as well.
