Body of missing dock worker Dipankar recovered after 19 hours in Kapotaksh

The body of dock worker Dipankar Mondal (35) was finally recovered after nearly 19 hours of being swept away by the strong current of the Kapotaksh river. On Monday (June 22, 2026) at around 2 pm, a fire service diver team recovered his body floating in the river adjacent to the Bharbhoria sluice gate in Borhanpur village of Ward No. 4 of Raruli Union. The body of dock worker Dipankar Mondal (35) was finally recovered after nearly 19 hours of being swept away by the strong current of the Kapotaksh river. On Monday (June 22, 2026) at around 2 pm, a fire service diver team recovered his body floating in the river adjacent to the Bharbhoria sluice gate in Borhanpur village of Ward No. 4 of Raruli Union.
Earlier, on Sunday (June 21) at around 7:45 pm, he went missing while washing his hands and feet at the steamer ghat of the Kapotaksh river in Paschim Para, Raruli Union No. 8 of Paikgachha Upazila. The deceased Dipankar is the son of Dulal Mondal of Raruli Paschim Para village.
The initial rescue efforts of the locals failed due to the turbulent river and strong current on Sunday night. From Monday morning, the special diving team of the Fire Service started a search operation with a trawler at various points of the Kapotaksha River. Around noon, the diving team and the local people saw a body floating in the Borhanpur Bharbhoria Sluice Gate area, some distance from the accident site. Later, when the floating body was recovered from the river, relatives identified it as Dipankar. According to family and eyewitness sources, Dipankar Mandal worked as a ghat worker in various markets and markets of Paikgachha Upazila. Like every day on Sunday, after working hard all day at Kapilmuni Bazar No. 2, he left for home in the evening in a tired body. When he reached the steamer ghat in Raruli West Para near his house and went down to the river bank to wash his dusty body and hands and feet, he inadvertently slipped and fell into the strong current and drowned.
When the news of Dipankar’s body being recovered spread, a deep shadow of grief fell over the entire area including Raruli West Para. The air became heavy with the wailing and crying of the relatives waiting on the banks of the Kopotaksh. The elderly parents are speechless after losing the only earning youth of the family.
It is learnt that preparations are underway to hand over the body to the family after completing the legal process under the overall supervision of the local administration and fire service authorities.
