An allegation has been made that an expatriate’s house in the Madhyapara area of Brahmanbaria district town was broken into by cutting the window grill, taking him hostage at gunpoint and looting cash, gold ornaments and mobile phones worth around 1.2 million taka.
The heinous theft occurred at the house of Nazir Mia, a resident of the 4th floor of Iqbal Mia’s house in Ward No. 5, Madhyapara, at around 3 am on Saturday (June 20, 2026).
According to the victim’s family, members of an organized gang of thieves entered the building late at night by cutting the grill of the 4th floor window. Later, when he opened the main door of the house from inside, 4 more thieves who were waiting outside entered. The gang of thieves threatened everyone in the house with knives, machetes and other country-made weapons and took them hostage.
The looters looted 2.5 bhari gold, 8 bhari silver, 5 lakh 25 thousand taka cash, an iPhone 11 Pro Max and an Oppo 16e smartphone, totaling around 12 lakh taka. While leaving, they took several national identity cards (NID) of the family with them. However, at the earnest request of the wife of expatriate Nazir Mia, the thieves left behind 4 passports.
The wife of expatriate Nazir Mia told the media that the planned theft and looting incident was led by a young man named ‘Mahfuz’ who came to their house to work on the dish line a few days ago. The family believes that it was well-planned, given the movements and preparations of the gang of thieves.
The incident has created extreme excitement and panic in the area. It is learnt that preparations are underway to file a case in this regard at Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station on behalf of the victim’s family.
In this regard, Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Revenue Obaidur Rahman said that instructions have been given to Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station to investigate the complaint and take necessary legal action.
