Assistant headmaster’s hanging body recovered in Shibpur, Narsingdi

A note was lying on the table in Shibpur, Narsingdi, and the body of a school teacher was hanging from the ceiling fan in the room. Yesterday, Thursday, at around 9:30 am, the Shibpur Police recovered the hanging body of Assistant Headmaster Md. Billal Hossain (50) from a rented house adjacent to Collegegate School in the upazila.

The deceased Billal Hossain is the son of the deceased Hasan Ali of Gusinga village in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. He was working as an assistant headmaster of Shibpur Government Pilot Model High School. He joined this school in 2016.

The deceased’s wife Ruma Begum said that she dropped her daughter Maryam at school near her house and returned home and found the door of their house locked. When the door did not open after knocking, she started shouting. At this time, people from the surrounding area rushed to the spot.  Later, they informed the police.

According to local sources, the neighbors came to the police after hearing the cries of the deceased’s wife Ruma Begum. Later, the police broke the door and entered inside and found Md. Billal Hossain hanging from a ceiling fan with a rope.

Shibpur Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun said that after receiving the information, they went to the spot and recovered the body with the help of locals. At that time, a note was recovered from the table in the room and taken to the police station. After preparing the post-mortem report of the body, it was sent to the morgue for autopsy.

The concerned did not disclose what Md. Billal Hossain had written before committing suicide.

Shibpur Government Pilot Model High School Principal Nur Uddin Mohammad Alamgir said that it is difficult to accept such a death of the school’s assistant principal. It is not yet confirmed why he committed suicide. However, he had been suffering from mental depression due to physical illness for a long time.

Shibpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kohinoor Mia said that a note has been recovered from the scene. The matter is being investigated. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.
