A new Executive Committee of the Sreepur Upazila Journalists Association for the 2026–2028 term has been formed in Gazipur. A new Executive Committee of the Sreepur Upazila Journalists Association for the 2026–2028 term has been formed in Gazipur.
The names of the newly elected committee members were announced by Abu Bakar Siddique Akand, Head of the Management Department of Sreepur Government College and Chief Adviser of the Sreepur Upazila Journalists Association.
The nine-member committee was formed with the unanimous consent of members following the association’s scheduled monthly general meeting held at its office at 8:00 PM on Saturday (June 13). As the tenure of the previous committee had expired, it was dissolved and the new committee was approved for the next two years.
The meeting was chaired by outgoing President Tajul Islam Sani and moderated by General Secretary Masud Rana. At the beginning of the meeting, Masud Rana presented the organizational report, while Treasurer Sadeq Mia presented the financial statement. Advisers and members participated in discussions on the reports.
Raihanul Islam Akand, Founder and Former President of the Sreepur Upazila Journalists Association, assured members that the proposals raised during the discussion would be considered and implemented.
In the second session of the meeting, chaired by the association’s Founding General Secretary Anisur Rahman Shamim and moderated by Rakibul Hasan Akand, nominations were invited for the posts of President, General Secretary, and Organizing Secretary.
Three candidates submitted their nominations. As there were no rival candidates, Adviser Abu Bakar Siddique Akand officially declared the elected office bearers. They are:
President: Selim Sheikh (Daily Amader Kantho)
General Secretary: Emdadul Haque (Daily Bhorer Darpan)
Organizing Secretary: S.M. Jahirul Islam (Daily Amar Desh)
Later, veteran journalist Alomgir Hossain, former President of Sreepur Press Club and Adviser to the association, announced the names of the elected members for the remaining six positions based on the opinions and consensus of the members.
The other elected members are:
Vice President: Naeem Mehdi (Daily Bangladesh)
Joint Secretary: Rakibul Hasan Akand (Daily Shiromoni)
The newly elected committee members expressed their commitment to strengthening professional journalism, safeguarding journalists’ rights, and working for the welfare of media professionals in Sreepur.
