Narsingdi District Council launches fruit and forest tree plantation program on the initiative of the Prime Minister

A fruit and forest tree plantation program has been organized by the Narsingdi District Council with the aim of protecting the balance of the environment, combating the adverse effects of climate change and building a green Bangladesh.

The program was organized on Saturday (June 13) in the Mollakanda area of ​​​​Putia Union of Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi.

This tree plantation program was implemented as part of the “250 million tree plantation program” announced by the Prime Minister.

Saplings of various species of fruit and forest trees such as Krishnachura, Sonalu, Arjun, Neem, etc. were planted in the program. The organizers said that this initiative has been taken with the aim of preserving the environment, protecting biodiversity and building a green, beautiful and livable Bangladesh for future generations.

Alhaj Manzur Elahi, MP from Narsingdi-3 (Shibpur) constituency and District BNP General Secretary, was present as the chief guest. Alhaj Tofazzal Hossain (Master), the Zilla Parishad Administrator and District BNP Vice President, was present as the special guest.

Also present were Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Md. Abdul Wahab Rashed, Assistant Engineer Nur-e-Ilham, Assistant Engineer Jannatul Ferdaus Anika, District BNP Vice President Akbar Hossain, Accounts Officer Roman Mia, Shibpur Upazila Jubo Dal Member Secretary Apel Mahmud Sumon, local public representatives, political and social figures and people from different classes and professions.

This tree program was started by planting saplings of different species on both sides of the regional road in Mollakanda village of Putia Union of Shibpur Police Station.  According to official sources, every 6 months, 1500 saplings of different species, i.e. 3,000 saplings per year, will be planted in different parts of Bangladesh, thus 250 million saplings in 5 years. This information was given by the Chief Executive Officer of the District Council.

The speakers said that trees not only maintain the balance of the environment, but also play an important role in ensuring food security, economic development and combating natural disasters. Therefore, they urged every citizen to plant at least one tree and take proper care of it to protect the environment.

According to Narsingdi District Council sources, such tree plantation programs will continue in different areas of the district in phases.
