Police have recovered the body of a newborn from the side of the Shibpur-Pancharbari road in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

Locals found the body in a cut-off in a paddy field next to the road on Wednesday morning. Later, when they informed the police, the Shibpur police station went to the spot, recovered the body and took it to the police station.
Some clothes were found in a bag next to the body. No one could immediately confirm the identity of the newborn.

Shibpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kohinur Mia said that the newborn is a boy. It is believed that someone left the newborn on the side of the road in the dead of night to hide his identity.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Legal action is under process in this incident.
