Five people were injured in lightning strikes in Sundarganj, Gaibandha. The incident occurred in different areas of Sundarganj upazila of the district on Tuesday (June 2) afternoon.

The injured are, Mosha: Noorina Begum (25), wife of Md. Nurunnabi Mia of Subarnadaha village of Ramjiban union of the upazila, Md. Atowar Rahman (50), son of the deceased Babar Ali of Dahaband union, Mosha. Joynab Begum (45), wife of Md. Ayanal Haque of Dakshin Dhumaitari village of the same union, Smt. Usha Rani (50), wife of Joy Krishna of Jarmanadi village, and Mosha: Sonali Begum (25), wife of Md. Murad Mia of Sundarganj municipality.

Locals said that in the afternoon, rain with moderate thunder suddenly started over the upazila. At that time, several lightning strikes occurred. Five people, including 4 women, were injured. The injured have been admitted to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex.

Sundarganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Dibakar Basak said that four people are currently undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. As the physical condition of one person has improved, he has been sent home after receiving primary treatment.
