The memorial service for Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy, Associate Professor of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Bangladesh Medical University, was held today, Saturday, April 17, 2026, at Shaheed Dr. Milon Hall. The chief guest at the memorial service was BMU’s Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui. In his speech, the Honorable Vice Chancellor expressed deep sorrow and prayed for the peace of his soul and expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family. The speakers at the memorial service said that Associate Professor Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy was a talented teacher and physician, a dedicated researcher, a stage actor and a man of multi-talented talent. He had extraordinary skills in various sports including cricket, hockey, carrom and badminton. His significant research on important areas of medical science, especially kala azar, has made important contributions to the health sector of the country. Outside his professional life, he was an amateur photographer. Capturing pictures of nature, traveling and discovering new places were his deep loves. With his untimely demise, Bangladesh Medical University has lost a priceless asset. His void will never be filled. At the memorial service, a video documentary on the colorful life of Professor Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy was screened. Dean of the Faculty of Basic Science and Paraclinical Science, Professor Dr. Saif Ullah Munshi presided over the event and Associate Professor Dr. ASM Nowroz moderated the event, with Associate Professor Dr. Shaheda Anwar among others speaking. Teachers, doctors, students and family members of Associate Professor Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy from various departments were present at the commemoration. It is noteworthy that Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy, Associate Professor of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2026 at 6 am while undergoing treatment at the ICU of BMU Super Specialized Hospital (Om Divyan Lokan Sa Gachatu). His death cast a shadow of grief on the BMU campus. He was 56 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son, relatives and numerous admirers, friends, colleagues and numerous students.
