Siddiqui met with Chinese Cultural Counselor Mr. Li Sharpen and Third Secretary Mr. Zhu Yong at his office today, Wednesday, April 15, 2026. They held fruitful discussions on various issues including the initiative to start a joint surgery clinic at BMU with the support of Kunming Medical University of China, higher medical education, health research and state-of-the-art medical services. Discussions were held on signing a memorandum of understanding in this regard soon. It was informed that four respected faculties of urology experts from Kunming Medical University of China will come to BMU this month and they will provide training on various complex operations, medical services, exchange experiences and impart valuable knowledge and education in the field of urology. During the meeting with the Vice Chancellor, BMU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Urology Professor Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, Deputy Director of the Super Specialized Hospital Dr. Mahbubul Islam Khandaker, and others were present.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor’s office presented an honorary crest to internationally renowned infectious disease expert Professor Brian Angus for his speech at a program held last year at BMU on the occasion of Evidence-Based Healthcare Day 2025. At the program, Professor Dr. Nurun Nahar Khanam, Director of the University’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), presented a certificate of appreciation to Professor Brian Angus on behalf of the organizers. At the time, Additional Director of IQAC, Associate Professor Dr. Deen Mujahid Md. Faruk Osmani, Associate Professor Dr. Abul Obaidah were present. Professor Brian Angus is also Reader in Infectious Diseases and Professor of Practice in Medical Education at the University of Oxford in the UK. He is also Director of the Oxford Centre for Clinical Tropical Medicine and Global Health. After joining the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine in 1993, he conducted research on severe malaria and melioidosis in Thailand and Ghana. His current research focus is on clinical trials and vaccine development, particularly for COVID-19, malaria, influenza, HIV, chronic fatigue syndrome, and enteric fever. He also serves as a Clinical Tutor in Medicine and an Honorary Senior Clinical Scientist. It is hoped that such initiatives and international participation by BMU will open new horizons in education and research in the future.
