At this time, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said, today is a very important day for me. I have done an internship in this institution. I have served as RP, Hostel Superintendent. As well as the good reputation of Bangladesh Medical University, there are also various problems. The expectations of the public are high from this university. The expectations of the public have to be fulfilled by solving the problems. Everyone needs to remember one thing, they have to understand the work and responsibilities of the position they are working in and focus on completing it properly and beautifully. Bangladesh Medical University will move forward only if one fulfills their responsibilities properly.
At this time, the recently former (interim) Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, in his speech, expressed his hope that Bangladesh Medical University’s medical education, medical services and research activities will move forward under the able leadership of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor.

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor was also greeted with flowers by the teachers and officers’ association of BMU, who believe in the respected nationalist ideals.
Then the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui exchanged views with the esteemed Vice-Chancellors, Treasurer, Registrar, Proctor, Deans, Course Directors, Examination Controllers, Departmental Chairmen, Medical Officers and officials of the University in turn. In the exchange of views with the Departmental Chairmen, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor said that the existing manpower should be used to the maximum extent possible amidst the challenging situation. The progress and evaluation of the activities of the department should be done every month.
Addressing the medical officers, he said, “Medical officers are the foundation of the medical service for patients. Medical officers reflect the attitude of doctors towards patients in the field of medical service. No matter how many problems and sorrows there are in personal life or at work, patients must be served with a smile.”
Addressing the officials, he said, “The expectations of the people from Bangladesh Medical University as the highest institution of medical education, service and research are very high. In order to fulfill that expectation, I have been appointed here from the highest level of the current government and the state. And to fulfill that expectation, everyone from the cleaner to the vice-chancellor of this university should have one thought, which is to perform each job correctly and on time. We have to perform our duties with honesty, dedication and sincerity while maintaining discipline. We have to treat everyone, including patients, with a smile. If we all try together, a visible positive change will come within the next six months. In the past difficult times, when there was no justice in the country, no appreciation of merit, I spoke fearlessly, tried to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me properly. I am not afraid of anyone except Allah Almighty. The main thing in my courage is honesty. Therefore, I want everyone working here to perform their duties with discipline and honesty.”
In addition, on the first working day, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor conducted a round with senior officials of the university administration to inspect the outpatient services and inquired about the treatment of a successful kidney transplant patient undergoing treatment in the cabin block.
It is to be noted that on March 9, 2026, a notification signed by Sanjeev Das, Senior Assistant Secretary, Health Education and Family Welfare Department, stated that with the approval of His Excellency the President and the Chancellor, Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui, former Professor, Department of Medicine, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University in accordance with Section 12 of the Bangladesh Medical University Act, 1998 (as amended by Ordinance No. 12 of 2025). His term of appointment as the Vice-Chancellor will be 04 (four) years from the date of joining.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui completed his MBBS from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Barisal in 1982. Later, he completed his internship from the former IPGMAR. In 1989, he obtained his FCPS degree in Medicine from BCPS.
In his higher education and professional life, he served as Assistant Registrar and Registrar of Medicine at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital from 1985 to 1989. From 1989 to 1991, he worked as Consultant of Medicine at Mymensingh Sadar Hospital. From 1991 to 1995, he worked as Resident Physician and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the former APGMR, now BMU. From 1998 to 2008, he worked as Associate Professor and Professor at Dhaka Medical College. He served as Professor of Medicine at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) from 2010 to 2018. He is also working as Professor of Medicine and Consultant Physician at a private hospital.
A skilled organizer, he served as the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Society of Medicine from 2002 to 2008 and as the Joint Secretary of the Federation of Medical Teachers Association from 1992 to 1995. In terms of international experience, he served as a Commonwealth Scholar at Southampton General Hospital, UK from 1995 to 1997.
Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui has a diverse and long experience in medical education in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He has contributed as a renowned and talented teacher in providing training to FCPS and MD trainees. He has made great contributions to the academic development of Bangladeshi physicians as a mentor for a long time, including clinical judgment, ethical practice. In the field of editing, he has served as the Chief Editor of Dhaka Medical College Journal and the Assistant Editor of Bangladesh Medical Journal.
In terms of research and publication, he is the author of more than a hundred research publications published in national and international journals. He has also made special contributions to the preparation of national clinical and public health guidelines. In addition, he has made special contributions to internal medicine, pulmonology or respiratory medicine, and has a special interest in contributing to the prevention of infectious diseases and working on this subject. He has close ties with the Bangladesh Society of Medicine and the American College of Physicians.
