Two smugglers along with a huge quantity of Indian drugs have been arrested in a joint operation by BGB and RAB at Sharsha border in Jessore district. A smart team of Putkhali BOP and CPC, RAB-6 under Khulna Battalion (21 BGB) conducted the operation on Saturday (04 April 2026).
The accused arrested in the operation are Md. Sumon Mia (17) of Sharsha Upazila and Md. Nayan Mia (20) of the same Upazila.
According to BGB sources, a special joint patrol team comprising Putkhali BOP and RAB-6 launched an operation based on a tip-off that a large consignment of drugs was being smuggled across the border. During the operation, 372 bottles of Indian ‘WINCEREX’ syrup were recovered after searching two suspected youths. The two accused along with the recovered drugs were immediately arrested and later handed over to Sharsha Police Station.
Khulna Battalion (21 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Md. Nafiz Imtiaz Ahsan said that BGB is following a zero tolerance policy to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking at the border. This success has been achieved as a result of increased intelligence surveillance and patrolling activities. He further said that such strict operations of BGB will continue in the future to keep the border areas of the country free from drugs and other smuggling.
